The Central Valley is a vast interior plain, bounded by the Cascade Range to the north, the Sierra Nevada to the east, the Tehachapi Mountains to the south, and the Coast Range and San Francisco Bay. At the heart of California's agriculture (the state's predominant industry, more than twice as large as the entertainment or high-tech manufacturing), tt is almost entirely covered by farms and rangeland, save for a few wildlife refuges. The Central Valley is pancake-flat, hot in summer, often foggy in winter.
