The highlight of the green and lush Portage Valley is scenic Portage Lake, which was often filled with icebergs from the Portage glacier. Over the last years, the glacier has receeded, so icebergs are not as dense as before. Yet, it is still a place where one can experience typical glacial Alaska scenery only half an hour from Anchorage.
