[The Keys] [Key West] [Sanibel Island] [Ding Darling] [Corkscrew Swamp]
[Misc Florida places] [Everglades NP] [Dry Tortugas NP] [Biscayne NP]
| South Florida is a sub-tropical low land of water. The tip of the peninsula is a slow-moving sheet of water, mostly protected by Everglades National Park, originating from Lake Okeechobee, and emptying into Florida Bay. A set of narrow barrier islands separate the Bay, and then the Golf of Mexico, from the Atlantic Ocean. They form the Florida Keys, which extend 100 miles to Key West. Further west lies Dry Tortugas National Park, on a cluster of small islands, while further east is Biscayne National Park, which protects the remaining undevelopped keys. |
