| The Florida Keys are a string of barrier islands south of the tip of the Florida mainland. They are connected by highway 1 that travels 100 miles to Key West, over more than forty bridges, the longest of them being the 7-mile bridge, suspended between open turquoise ocean and sky. The islands have a subtropical vegetation consisting mostly of mangroves. Big Pine Key is home to the endengered Key Deer, the smallest species of deer in north America, just the size of a large dog. |
