Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, is a gigantic Asian metropolis (population over six million), which has nevertheless kept under its modern appearance and noise a lot of the taste of traditional Thailand. The most pleasant way to move around the city and beat its infamous trafic is to use one of the several types of boats which ply the Chao Phraya river. This is an occasion to discover the city water life along its teak-houses lined canals.

The traditional culture of Thailand is present in Bangkok's numerous striking buddhist temples (Wats), which are heavens of peace in an often chaotic city.
