Jodhpur, the second largest city in Rajasthan, is often called the Blue City. The old town in dominated by the Mehrangarh Fort, possibly the most majestic in India, with its awesome walls 36 meter high. Other sights include the Jaswant Thada memorial built of thin white marble slabs, the imposing Umaid Bhawan Palace, the last of the great palaces built in India, and the Sardar Market. However, the most rewarding exploration is simply to meet the friendly and welcoming inhabitants of the old city by wandering in the maze of alleys and narrow streets, glowing with a mysterious color, that from the top of the fort, appears like a cubist sea of blue homes.
