Giant Sequoia National Monument consists of two sections. Images on this page are from the northern section, more specifically the stretch of highway between General Grant Grove and Cedar Grove, both of which are part of
Kings Canyon National Park. Many visitors don't realize that they are in Giant Sequoia National Monument instead of Kings Canyon National Park. The natural environment goes from sub-alpine meadows and sequoia forests to the dryer and warmer canyon bottom, where Yuccas thrive. With a maximum depth of 8,200 feet (2,500 m), Kings Canyon is one of the deepest canyons in the United States.
