Central Sweden, north of Stockholm, is a region of woods and lakes, where timber, and even more so, mining, were important activities. The copper mine Falu koppargruva was the most important mine in the world in the 17th century, and Stora is perhaps the world oldest public company. The Mining Area of the Great Copper Mountain in Falun is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
