The Sierra Nevada culminates dramatically in the southern part of the range, reaching its peak at Mt Whitney, the highest point in the continental US. The Sierra crest and its west side are included in Kings Canyon National Park and Sequoia National Park, whereas the east side, pictured on this page, is within Inyo National Forest.
