Salton Sea

Black and White pictures by QT Luong

The Salton Sea is a saline lake that was created by an accidental overflow of the Colorado River resulting from an ill-controled attempt to divert some of its water into the Imperial Valley for irrigation. Flowing into the Salton Basin for two years, the river created a vast lake, which in turn prompted the creation of resorts. However, since them, the lake has been shrinking and has become more saline than the oceans, and many fish have been killed by salt level, algae blooms, and pollution.
