The Carrizo Plain National Monument preserves the largest single native grassland remaining in California. Carrizo plain is enclosed between the Tremblor Range and the Caliente Range. Soda Lake, a large alkaline lake with a bed of white salt, receives all the runoff from the plain. Carrizo plain can have excellent wildflower displays in the spring.
