San Jose

San Jose became in 1850 the first incorporated city in the US State of California, and served as its first state capital. It is the most populous city in Northern California, and third in the state (after Los Angeles and San Diego). The city of San Jose stretches up to Mount Hamilton (4,372 feet), and so comprises a number of natural parks that contrast with its urban and suburban areas. It is an important business center as the self-proclaimed "Capital of the Silicon Valley". Although there are not many notable tourist attractions, the city has enjoyed a urban renaissance with a pleasant downtown area.
