Paul, you are referring to the Black Diamond Cayenne Glove. Besides the price ($380) my concern is that they are quite bulky. I will be trying instead the "Freedom Weightless" Battery Heated Glove Liners from activheat.com which cost only $70 and should allow for much more dexterity, although being liner gloves, they are designed to be used inside thicker gloves, so I'll have to see how well they work alone.

I appreciate reading about this because I have wondered how in the world to stay warm in very cold weather. I remember skiing in awfully cold weather quite a few times including once in Banff in -60 windchill and mostly driving snow, but in skiing you're active. Before reading this post, I couldn't imagine how to stay warm standing still. Very informative.

Not really, but this trip was exploratory, focused on night photography (the aurora), it was cold, and I traveled with another photographer which means a different pace and less room in the car for gear.

Thanks very much, incredibly useful info for cold weather photography. BD I think makes some very pricey LiIon powered gloves that have heating elements. Let us know if you find other techniques or solutions.
