Telluride is a mountain town set in a beautiful box canyon surrounded by tall peaks. Telluride combines the character of a well-preserved historic Wild West old mining town (most of the town is listed on the National Register of Historic Places) with a distinct wordly sophistication. Telluride is home to a number of great festivals during the summer, the season beginning with Mountainfilm. A free gondola connects the town to the affluent Mountain Village, which is the base for the Telluride ski resort.
