KotzebuePictures by QT Luong |
| Situated just north of the Arctic circle, on the coast of the Bering sea in North-west Alaska, Kotzebue is one of the largest Inupiaq Eskimo communities in Alaska. They comprise more than 90% of its population of 3000. Although a typical bush town reached only by air or sea, it is the transportation and commerce center for this vast part of Alaska, being served daily by commercial jet. The town itself has the somewhat makeshift atmosphere of the Arctic, but it is almost surrounded by national monuments and preserves. It is also the gateway to Kobuk Valley National Park. |
